Description

NOW on CD. In taking possession of Canada, the British Imperial Government issued instructions to the Lords Commissioners of Trade and Plantations limiting grants of public land to 100 acres for every head of a family and 50 acres for every other person composing the family, with power to extend the total area to 1,000 acres in exceptional cases. These instructions gave free tenure without any other condition than the reservation of the right of the Crown to resume possession of the whole or part of the grant in the event of it being required for military purposes. These grants were made by means of location tickets or occupation permits. This book is an index of these grants.
