Timelines for the Founding of Canada

Following are the names by which Canada, and/or the Provinces and Territories were known as at different times in history, by date and jurisdiction.  This list could be expanded with regards to Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland when their territory was expanded at different times during their own histories.

But put simply:
First there was a colony at present-day Quebec City, which was part of New France.  New France ceased to exist by treaty after 1759.  So one can say, the Quebec colony ceased to be part of NF then, and consequently coming under British Control.  There followed a number of Acts of the British Parliament, in which the French colonies (Quebec, Montreal et al) and the English colonies (present-day province of Ontario), were placed under different administrations - see dates above.  Present-day Quebec, the province, became a part of present-day Canada, the country, in 1867.
